CALEALafayette Group provided both planning and technical support to the FBI for the implementation of the Communications Assistance to Law Enforcement Act (CALEA). Congress enacted CALEA in 1994 to help law enforcement agencies conduct electronic surveillance. Lafayette Group's technical staff worked in the FBI national program office that is responsible for court-ordered interception of communications. Lafayette Group has been under contract to the FBI for more than 8 years, over the most dramatic period of change in telecommunications technologies. Intercept technology is utilized by every major law enforcement agency in the Nation today, pursuant to warrants issued by Federal and State courts. Lafayette Group worked with these agencies to stop crime, drug trafficking and terrorism. top |

PEPLafayette Group provided program management services for the Prepositioned Equipment Program (PEP) until 2005, which consisted of standardized equipment pods prepositioned in nine selected geographic areas to permit rapid deployment to States and localities, in the case of a major terrorist incident or natural disaster. The centralized equipment enabled States and local jurisdictions to provide an adequate, sustained response to a major incident. Highly specialized equipment and frequently used off-the-shelf items were stored in pods, transportable by land or air after help is requested. This equipment is specifically tailored to sustain and reconstitute the capabilities of State and local first responders. top |
